Bio

An actor, director, and writer, Tony Abatemarco’s work includes multiple roles in Electra at the International Conference on Sophocles in Delphi, Greece. Tony is a recipient of nineteen LA theatre awards, the most recent being an Ovation Award for Lead Performance in Charles Ludlam's The Mystery of Irma Vep. He was also the first winner of the Ted Schmidt Memorial Award for Innovation in Small Theatre, presented by Theatre LA. In his twenty-six years in Los Angeles, he has founded two seminal performance venues: The Accident Theater and The Night House, and has received two NEA Fellowships, as well as the DGA's George Stevens Observership. In 2003, his original show, Cologne, was critically acclaimed Off-Broadway after its LA and Santa Fe runs. Tony directed Ms. Julie Harris in William Luce's Lucifer's Child on Broadway, for which she received a Tony nomination, and reprised his service for the filmed version on A&E. Among many shows he directed in Los Angeles are this year's L.A. Live! at the Natural History Museum. He was the first artistic director of Jacques D'Amboise' National Dance Institute--LA at the Mark Taper Forum. His work outside LA has been seen at the Public Theatre, Cherry Lane (NYC), Williamstown, Arena Stage, London ICA, Santa Fe Stages, and Theatre Grevin-Paris. Feature film credits include A Day Without A Mexican, I Am Sam, Town & Country, Sacrifice, All Over the Guy, and Sleeping with the Enemy. Television guest-starring roles include Frasier, Profiler, ER, and many more.
