Bio
A native of Southwest Virginia, Mark Salyer has been an award-winning actor, director and producer for the past fifteen years. He has acted and directed regionally in LA, Washington, DC, New York, Georgia and Virginia. In 2004, he was featured in Sophocles’ Electra in Greece as part of the pre-Olympic Theatre Fesitval celebrating the birth of Sophocles. Salyer was named Atlanta’s Best Guest Actor 2003 for Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Directing credits include Williams’ Suddenly Last Summer, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Menotti’s The Medium, Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Sondheims’ Into the Woods, Schwartz’ Pippin and Godspell, and, at Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, Big River, Little Shop of Horrors, The Rocky Horror Show, Cabaret and An Evening with Stephen Schwartz starring ben Vereen.
He was fortunate to have an association with the Roundabout Theatre in New York City, one of the largest non-profit theatre companies in the US, where he worked on the general management team for the Tony Award winning Broadway production of Cabaret. In addition, he served as an in-house producer for such performances as The Theatreworld Awards, The Laura Pels Foundation Awards, The Drama Dept.’s Salute to Paul Rudnick, An Evening with Marvin Hamlisch and An Evening with Barbara Cooke in the Roundabout’s Broadway theatres. Mark has taught at the University of Virginia‘s College at Wise and College of the Canyons in California. He is co-founder and a Producing Director for The Theatre Project SCV, a non-profit theatre company in California offering professional productions, internships, master classes and workshops.
