Bio

Joanna Cazden, MFA, MS-CCC, is widely respected as a voice specialist and educator, and is the author of How to Take Care of Your Voice: The Lifestyle Guide for Singers and Talkers (2007, Booklocker.com). She has presented at major voice conferences from San Francisco to Scotland and was the senior speech pathologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Voice and Speech program from 2001-08. In addition to an MS in Communication Disorders from California State University, Northridge, Cazden holds BA and MFA degrees in theater arts. In 2006 she became certified as an Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework, a training method favored in many theater conservatories. She is also a lifelong vocal and instrumental musician with a special interest in traditional folk music and musicology. Ms. Cazden maintains an active career as a singer, song-leader, and choral director, and in 2000 she performed and recorded with Pete Seeger in a program of traditional music later featured at the Library of Congress. She has written on vocal health, technique, and musicology for publications including Onstage, SingOut!, Voice and Speech Review, Folkworks, and Whole Life Times; and in 2004 she received a statewide award for excellence in clinical practice, teaching, and community service.
