babies have great voices

Posted in FLEX by Administrator on the May 24th, 2009

I love it when babies cry. Sounds a bit cruel. But it’s true.
I love the science of it.
First off, it’s LOUD. Anyone who has ever been on a plane with the irritated child knows you can hear that yelp all over the cabin.
Second, they have big bellies and they use them.
Third, do they ever get hoarse or tired of crying? I think not.
As adults, it’s a whole different story.
Joanna Cazden helped me to return to those natural sensibilities. Rene Urbanovich is the type of teacher that makes me feel like screaming AMEN at everything she says. They are right on and together for next Saturday’s workshop.
* Fitzmaurice-based exercises to expand breath and flexibility
* DVD footage of vocal cords singing a variety of styles of music – classical, jazz, country, musical theatre.
* Uncovering your natural voice and speech level singing
* Questions and Answers about the voice, technique, vocal health….
* Exercises to work-out the MIX
* A Master Class with an accompanist and both ladies, applying their expertise to YOUR WORK

The class is $100, Pre-registration price $75

The class is eight hours, includes lunch
Screenland Studios
May 30
10AM – 6:00PM

Singers bring sheet music in the appropriate key.
Actors and other people who use their voice (teachers, speakers…) bring a monologue or something memorized to use.
Call 323.868.1352 for reservations or e-mail me at mark@artreachus.com.

And, for the record, I DO NOT pinch babies just to watch them cry.

Peace,
Mark

Hello all,
Another great workshop with the fabulous Jean-Louis and Kristof. What a talented group of performers! And diverse…a puppeteer, a singer, a pianist/singer, an actress, an actor, a dancer, a hearing impaired actress…we gave the Alexander boys some fun challenges!!

NEXT UP
A few years back, in the midst of teaching, performing and stressing, I developed a small nodule on my vocal cords. Of course in panic, I searched the town for the best voice therapist I could find. My good friend Rene Urbanovich told me about Joanna Cazden.
Thanks to the genorosity of my insurance company, I was able to visit Joanna for ten+sessions. Truly, I learned more about my instrument than I had learned in 20 years of voice lessons. I’ve since become a total and complete geek for any workshop that expands and enhances the voice in a healthy and productive way. That being said….both these great ladies in one great class…

2:00 Work-out with Brent Crayon
3:00 Master class with Julia Gregory (as I like to call her, the Phenom)

Prepare a song in the appropriate key. BRING SHEET MUSIC and dance clothes.
